Eco Conscious. Retro Chic. Bridal Line made from memories battenburg-laceof the past – Beautiful found laces are transformed into one of a kind wedding dresses by the hands of Kim McCormick of Kimmi Designs. I began designing in 1995 and from the beginning I was drawn to create garments that were environmentally sustainable.  In 2000 I began creating unique wedding dresses with an eco friendly focus using vintage lace and found fabrics for the eco conscious bride.

My Grandmother taught me to sew and embroider which instilled in me a deep admiration for the skill that goes into such handwork. Always having been drawn to vintage and secondhand textiles, particularly hand worked pieces like embroidered tablecloths and laces, the craftsmanship that has gone into them inspires me to carry on that work by re-creating those pieces into new wearable garments.

As my business progressed I realized the uniqueness of recycled fabrics was even more of a plus, being able to create more one-of-a-kind designs is more appealing to me as a designer. Even if I’m using a pattern/design over and over again, the fact the fabric is different each time makes it unique.

The environmental aspect of this is extremely important to me. I’ve created a circular system in my business; turning old into new, creating clothing that is valued and meant to last. I recycle packing and shipping materials, my main sources of advertising are online thus saving lots of paper! I drape directly onto my dress forms to create my reusable patterns. My line is made in Seattle by myself and a handful of skilled artisans. I believe it is important to know where our clothes come from and who made them.

The past draws me into the future.
